80's Party!

The lovely Mary Jenkins birthday was this week and she celebrated by having an 80's themed party at Rosebuds bar in Lexington. Most everyone dressed up in their finest leg warmers, leggings and jelly shoes. It was so much fun. Here are some pictures. I had to wash my hair 3 times just to get all the hairspray out!

We all brought a gift for a "white elephant" gift exchange. I ended up with this lovely gem that now hangs on my refrigerator. It is a "mood chart" and you change it based upon what mood you are in any given day, clever.

BLC October

Breck watched todays game at home. He was cheering them on up to the last minute. Unfortunately, we didn't pull out a win, but we sure did put up a good fight. I'm ready for the Cats to return home and take on South Carolina next weekend!

Martha

So, a few weeks ago, when we planned the NYC trip, I started thinking about fun things to do on our trip. I got the idea to go to pretty much every major talk show website if they filmed in NYC. I signed up for audience tickets for all of them! Most shows were already booked but said they would contact me a few weeks before if they had some extras. Low and behold I come home yesterday and open up my email and find a confirmation from the Martha Stewart Show! How funny is that!?Martha was by NO means my first choice out of all the shows I registered for, actually it was probably my last choice. However, it is just too funny to pass up. Martha get ready, here we come!

NYC...here we come!

Watch out NYC! Only a few more weeks until we will be hitting the big apple for fall break! Brittney Bates and I have been several times together and this time the lovely Brittany White (Fink) will be coming along for the ride. She has never been! I am already counting down until the trip. I sure do love these girls!

Daniel Bible Study

Last night, Ami, Jineane and myself started the Beth Moore Bible study, "Daniel." I am so excited to see what the Lord has in store for us through this study. I am also really looking forward to getting to know Ami and Jineane better. We watched the first session last night and I did my first night of "homework" tonight. I am going to try and post at least one thing that the Lord has taught me at the end of every week. Stay tuned!

Torture E-Mail

My sister is at the beach this week and I have requested that she send a picture of my main man at least once a day. I have already gotten 2 pictures from the first day and it just makes me miss my buddy! Here he is enjoying his bouncy seat on the front porch.

Introducing....

The Bluegrass Ladies Club!

We are a group of ladies who are making a conscious decision to get to know one another better. Besides Emily and Maria, I really did not know the other ladies at all. The lovely Ami came up with the idea and I am so happy to be involved! We all come from different walks of life, which provides for some interesting dinner conversation to say the least : )I could not be more thrilled that the Lord put this opportunity in my path! We get together for dinner once a month and are also participating in various other events together. Including, but not limited to learning how to knit, Halloween parties and trips to IKEA!

Thought for the day...

Tonight while perusing the internet I came across a blog that had posted this quote. It is actually from a book about marriage, but I believe the principles can also be applied to all other relationships. The book is Devotions for a Sacred Marriage and was written by Gary Thomas. This particular section really stood out to me, so I thought I would share it.

*I have changed any "marriage" related words to "relationship" related words just to make it more relevant to my situation, as I am most certainly NOT married :)

"Personal worship is an absolute necessity for a strong relationship*. It comes down to this: If I stop receiving from God, I start demanding from others. Instead of appreciating and loving and serving others, I become disappointed in them. Instead of cherishing my friends*, I become aware of their shortcomings. I take out my frustrations with a less-than-perfect life and somehow blame them* for my lack of fulfillment.

But when my heart gets filled by God's love and acceptance, I'm set free to love instead of worrying about being loved. I'm motivated to serve instead of becoming obsessed about whether I'm being served. I'm moved to cherish instead of feeling unappreciated."


I am the queen of this! It is a real struggle for me and I feel like the author really hit the nail on the head! Does this resonate with anyone else??

Can You Duet

While I 100% realize that most of my blog readers will have no clue who this is, I felt the need to share.

Tonight, mom and I drove down to Panama City to have dinner at Jimmy Buffets Margaritaville. We have been in Watercolor for a few days, getting in some relaxation before I start back to school. Anywho, right as we sat down to dinner I looked over to the table next to us and spotted Caitlin Lynn.

Now, the obvious question is..."Who the heck is that?!?." Being a huge geek, I religiously watched CMT's "Can you duet." It is a show similar to American Idol in that people from across the country audition in front of 3 judges (Naomi Judd being one of them) in hopes of landing a record deal. However, this shows objective was to find a duet, versus a solo artist. Caitlin actually auditioned with a friend, but the judges only allowed her to continue on in the competition. They then paired her up with a guy named Will Snyder (who happens to be from London, Ky). The match ended up being a perfect one and they went on to win the show.

I increased my level on the geek scale when I went over and introduced myself and let her know how happy I was that they won the competition. She was so sweet and just a genuinely nice person. She even walked over to meet mom, who was the one who convinced me to go over.

She really does have an incredible voice. I included this video for your viewing pleasure :)

Can't Decide?

While I am not going to discuss my personal political opinions on my blog, I did want to post about this...

I sat down tonight and watched the political forum with Obama and McCain. If you have not chosen a candidate, or even if you have, I would STRONGLY advise taking the time to watch the forum. It was hosted by Rick Warren of Saddleback Church in California. Warren started with Obama and asked him a set of questions, then brought out McCain and asked him the exact same questions (McCain was in a green room and could not hear any on the questions or Obama's responses). I loved the format. The topics ranged from taxes to abortion. No topic was off limits. Both candidates had a very different approach to the questions, I thought it was so interesting!

Here is an article about it, along with some video. I am sure they will be re-airing it, check your local times and tune in. You have 79 days to make an informed decision about who you want to vote for. It's too important not to care. Be educated!

Birthday Celebrations

Maria's birthday is August 1st and mine is August 7th. We started a new tradition last year to celebrate together! This years celebration worked out to be on August 9th. We all had dinner at Atomic Cafe and then went outside to the patio to dance to a local band. I swiped these pictures from Markey's facebook, but I'm sure she wouldn't mind if I shared them on here :)
